MAN IN THE CAVE 100cm x 100cm

This painting is inspired by Plato and his theory that we humans do not perceive the real world, but only the shadows of that world.
 A man sits in the left corner. He cannot see the light that awaits him. In the opening, I printed an old engraving by Dürer depicting "Jacob's Ladder," in which angels try to help him climb, while demons try to pull him down.
 It is an image of the inner struggle we all experience, when we fail to see the possibilities opening up all around us, and we remain locked in our "little world."
